PRYC to extend support for newcomer class by hosting a two-day regatta

For the third year running Paradise Radio Yacht Club is to host a Dragon Force 65 event. This is in recognition of the club’s newly approved DF 65 Class which has drawn many new skippers to RC racing.

With now more than 40 PRYC DF65 skippers and a load of interest from around Australia, this year’s “Challengeregatta has graduated to be a two-day event.

We look forward to welcoming DF65 skippers from everywhere on the 5-6th May for this National DF65 Invitational Challengeregatta at Emerald Lakes on the Gold Coast.

DF95 in the Whitsundays.

The WHITSUNDAY MODEL BOAT CLUB INC. have been in the doldrums for some time now trying to build the club's membership with IOM's only, and were not having any success. They asked Col Cameron for some advice and he recommended they pursue the DF95 class as it is similar in size to the IOM's and the fleets are building rapidly across Australia.
Within 3 weeks they have a fleet of 6 x DF95's with more to come, have increased membership by 3 already, and they have an excited outlook for their club.
See their latest video of the new DF95s sailing on their You Tube channel .

DF65 Progress and Plans

The DF65 class is growing daily throughout the state, with new members being identified through the launch of the Australian DF65 Radio Sailing
Association Inc.  This has allowed us to locate small groups and individuals and direct them to QRYA clubs in their vicinity. Fraser Coast are now
supporting the DF65 class and I am sure they will see their numbers grow as a consequence.
The initial aim of the Association is to formalise the identification of the boats. A pre-requisite to becoming a NRC. The class is now ready to move
forward to the next phase of the evolution of the DF65 fleet.
The 3rd March saw the first round of the DF65 Inter-club Tri Series hosted by Brisbane RYC. 23 skippers lined up for a fun day trying to find that elusive
breeze. The next 2 rounds are 9th June at Springfield Lakes MMs and the final round at Paradise RYC Gold Coast on the 16th September. In addition to
the individual place winners, we also have a club competition with the 3 lowest skippers scores from each of the 3 rounds counting.
It is the first time the A+ rigs have been used in competition since their inclusion to the sail wardrobe of the DF65 class. The results speak for
themselves with the top 10 boats sporting A+ sails. After much debate and discussion about the pros and cons of the new rig, I think the results on the
water spoke loudest.
In the coming months, we have the National DF65 Invitational Challenge (NICs) on the 5 & 6th May at Paradise Radio Yacht Club, Emerald Lakes Gold
Coast. This is our National event until such time as we become a Nationally Recognised Class with the ARYA.
The Qld DF65 Championships will be hosted by Springfield Lakes on the 7 & 8th July,  Sth Qld DF65 Championship 11 & 12th August at Carbrook.
So, if it is red, hot one-design racing you are looking for, we have it in spades.
