Queensland RC Yachting COVID-19 Policy Released

COVID 19 Update3 September 2020

The QRYA has developed and released a Policy to guide Radio Controlled Yachting events on its calendar.  The Queensland Government 'Industry COVID Safe Plan for Outdoor Sports' describes the role of State/National Peak Sporting Bodies to provide guidance.

The QRYA COVID-19 Policy describes the QRYA requirements for hosting Queensland regional and State level events.  As important is the opportunity for each club to apply the same documentation to their club activities.

Following the release of this document, several clubs have started to build their own 'Site Specific' documents underneath these overarching documents.  Paradise Radio Yacht Club (PRYC) had developed their guidelines last month and have now harmonised them with both the QRYA Poilcy and the Queensland Goverment Plan for Outdoor Sports.  They have decided to attach the Site Specific plan as Attachment 4, an elegant solution.

Other clubs are well underway to compliance including Moreton Radio Yacht Squadron (MRYS) who are hosting the Marblehead State Championship and Springfield Lakes Maritime Modellers (SLMM), but other clubs are also engaged already following the release of the Policy on the 31st August.

The one-page QRYA Policy only describes the expectations of the Association, the central document is the Approved COVID-19 Management Plan produced by the State Government.  If health directions change, the plan will be changed for us.

Currently any sporting organisation working to an Approved Plan can hold an event with more than the 10 person limit applied in restricted areas, as long as they comply with the Plan.  Of course clubs are free define their own limits for regular activities.

South Queensland IOM Championship now December

first substitute26th August 2020

The South Queensland IOM Championship will now be held 5th-6th December 2020 at Emerald Lakes.  Paradise Radio Yacht Club (PRYC) and the QRYA Events Coordinator targeted this weekend as it will put the biggest distance between the current COVID-19 restrictions and sneak in just before the December school holidays.

The QRYA collaborated closely with and fully supported PRYC on the difficult decision to postpone the event scheduled for the 29 - 30 August.  The club and event mangers need to be aplauded for putting the saftey of the entrants, volunteers and the general communitty ahead of the other complex considerations.  As club and association committees have not had to deal with a situation anything like this before, we ask sailors to be patient with and respectful to volunteers who are rapidly adjusting what needs to do be done to continue competitions in our sport.

The Notice of Race will be posted on this website shortly.

Postpontment of SQ IOM Championship

postponed24 August 2020

COVID-19 is continuing to reek havoc on the sporting calendar.  The email below was sent out to all registered entrants to the South Queensland Championships this afternoon.

Hi All

The SQLD IOM Championship scheduled to be held at Emerald Lakes on the 29/30 Aug 20 has been cancelled due to the changes in the COVID-19 restrictions.

The decision has not been made lightly. In addition to hosting the event, the PRYC has an overriding responsibility to put in place conditions which will minimise the risk of infection to any participants, officials or spectators and to conform with current rules and restrictions that are in place.

Current Covid 19 restrictions limit the number that can participate in an event. The requirements to successfully host the event at this time cannot be achieved under the current restrictions without adversely affecting the running of the event. There are also concerns that the restrictions may be increased in the coming days.

The PRYC chose to make the decision early as possible so those members traverling a considerable distance can cancel any accommodation etc.

The PRYC is keen to run the event and would be happy to host it later in the year if the Qld schedule and Government restrictions at the time permit.

Any inconvenience or difficulties this decision may cause is regretted.

Please acknowledge receipt of this email.

Regards Bill

As Bill has intimated, decisions like this are not just about the details of COVID-19 restrictions, they are a complex mix best described as the level of comfort that the host club has to host the event.  If the club is not satisfied that the event is in the collective best interest, then it does not happen.  At least not on that date.

There is space in the QRYA Calendar to reschedule this event in the last few months of the year.  Hopefully things will have settled down by then.

AUS Events Continued Impact of COVID19

laserimageandLogoAug 14, 2020

Australian state/regional & national events continue to be impact by state government border restrictions as the country grapples with the COVID pandemic.

Along with the 2020 IOM Australian Championship, the 2020 RC Laser Australian Championship has now been cancelled as the relaxation of government policies that will allow full access for competitors across Australia to compete, is unlikely to occur in the short term.

With the ever changing COVID restrictions across all Australian states, the task of scheduling a national event is overwhelming. Accordingly, the ARYA has decided that the schedule for 2021 Australian Championships will not be released without some level of surety of the event to be held on the scheduled date.

Further information will be released as/when circumstances change.
